3 Things You Should Know About Rvs For Sale By Owner
If you are looking for RVs for sale by owner, then you ought to know three things. These three things can save you not only money, but also a lot of heartache down the road. Do you know what to check for? Find out now…
Warning Signs on a RV
Like all used items for sale, some are in better condition than others. As an informed consumer, you need to know what to look for so you don’t wind up with a lemon. Some quick and easy things to check include:
• Excessive Sealant — This is a sign that the motor home or travel trailer has had issues with leaks.
• Water Stains — Water stains on the ceiling and walls are signs of leaks. Water stains on the floor or in the cabinets can either be leaks or broken pipes.
• Expired Tires — Every RV tire will have a four-digit code stamped on the side. The first two digits are the week of the year they were made and the last two digits are the year they were made.
o Any tire over six years old will need to be replaced.
o Old tires in good condition show the owner did not use it and you must ask yourself why.
Get the CarFax on the RV
While many people think that CarFax is just for cars, it is good on any used vehicle. Always check the CarFax, as they give unbiased and accurate information on the history of the vehicle. You will want to look for water damage, fire damage, bodywork and other claims that may pop up.
While it costs a little bit to check the CarFax, it is worth every penny if it prevents you from buying a lemon.
RV Dealers Sell RV By Owner
This is probably the best kept secret in the business. Many people think that in order to buy from an owner, you have to go to the owner. This is not the case. Many times RV lots sell motor homes, travel trailers, pop-ups and what have you on consignment. This means that while they never own the RV, they have permission to sell it for the owner.
So save yourself a lot of time by checking out the consignment on a RV dealer lot. It will save you time, money and lots of headaches. You will be glad you did.

Buy RVs for Sale by Owner and You Could Be Missing Out on a Great Deal
If you could be an avid RV’er called by the open road, but you don’t like how wide the new RVs make you open your wallet, you may be considering RVs for sale by owner. That can be disillusioning for a lot of reasons, not the least being the uncertainty of buying from someone you don’t know.
When buying from a private party, you can never be truly sure of the condition of the vehicle. And even if the seller is being completely honest about the shape the RV is in, he still is motivated to bargain for the highest possible price. There is good news, though. There are other options available.
For the price-conscious buyer, auctions provide a less well-known but more profitable way to buy an RV than buying RVs for sale by owner.
Why are auctions such a good deal?
When a family encounters a financial emergency, the luxury items are the first to go. The financial institutions that reclaim RVs often want to convert their assets into cash to reinvest. They also want to avoid the exorbitant cost of storing repossessed vehicles. Actions are a common way for the institutions to liquidate inventory they don’t want to hold.
Auctions are often less visible than sales in classic advertisements like the classifieds or Craigslist. Therefore, many buyers are unaware of the incredible deals that are available. Fewer buyers often mean fewer competitors which can translate into lower prices.
For the buyer, this provides an opportunity to acquire a quality trailer or motor home at a fraction of the market value.
How to take advantage of these deals
Before looking at RV’s for sale by owner, find out what auctions are available. There are websites with staffs that research auctions from a large variety of sources around the country and even in foreign countries. RVs are sold by federal, state, and municipal governments as well as Sheriffs and Marshall’s Offices, and lending organizations. You’ll find dozens and sometimes even hundreds of auctions being held in your region.
A small membership fee to one of these auction websites can make you part of a little-known group that save thousands over RVs for sale by owner.
You can save yourself time and literally thousands of dollars by looking over a review of sites that auction used RVs and by using our online buying guide (no need to sign up) to learn how to buy used RVs.

Reconsider RVs for Sale By Owner ? Now there?s a better way to save money
If you love the freedom to travel where you want, when you want, and the ability to explore the country in the comfort of your own home, you can’t beat an RV. But buying a new motor home or trailer costs much more than many travelers can afford. And if you are looking for an RV for sale by owner, you might want to think again. There are downsides to buying an RV from a private owner. And there are better options for saving money.
Here are some points to consider when buying privately.
Why is the RV for Sale?
Sometimes the reasons are financial but often, the seller is getting rid of the vehicle because of mechanical issues. In any case, the buyer wants to find the lowest price while the seller hopes to make the most profit. So chances are, somebody will go home disappointed.
Can You Trust Your Seller?
Although many private owners are honest about their vehicle’s condition, some are not. Nobody wants to get home and find any unpleasant surprises.
Auctions can provide a selection comparable to RVs for sale by owner but at a fraction of the cost.
When you research places to buy an RV, make sure to include auctions on your list. You will be surprised at the quality of some vehicles and the low prices that are available.
Today, banks are repossessing many RV’s and government agencies like FEMA have surplus units. Due to the size of most of these vehicles, they are very expensive for a financial institution to hold onto. FEMA, for example, has 120,000 campers currently stored in a field in Hope, Kansas. So many are sold to convert them into cash to reinvest and defray costs.
The seller’s need means that buyers can take advantage of lower demand and lower prices. Most buyers aren’t aware of auctions (would you know where to find one?) leaving less competition to bid on your favorite vehicle. So it’s a good time to explore auctions and bid on exciting vehicles at much lower prices.
Here’s what you need to do
Join a website that will help you find these auctions. It’s inexpensive and you can often find dozens or even hundreds of auctions in your region. You can often save thousands, especially if you’re flexible on the model. Opening bids often start as low as 0.
So there’s ample reason to skip those RVs for sale by owner and buy your dream RV at auction at a much lower price.
Don’t Buy an RV For Sale by Owner – Here’s an Even Cheaper Source
So you want an RV, but don’t want to pay for a new one? We all know that a new RV is very expensive, and there are enough bills at the end of the month without adding the finance of the new RV. Buying a second-hand RV would be your ideal option, but buying an RV for sale by owner is not your only option.
When looking to buy any kind of second-hand vehicle, most people only think of those that are being sold in the newspapers by their owners. This is a fine way to go when looking for your RV, except for the disadvantages:
* The owner of the RV is selling it for a reason, and this reason you will never be able to completely, accurately determine. After all, you don’t t know this person, he could be as honest as daylight, or as sly as a fox! The main reason for the sale is probably his finances, therefore he is going to be looking for the highest price possible. And you, of course, are looking for the lowest price. At the end of the day, someone is going to lose out.
* The other disadvantage is that you have no way to be sure about the condition of the RV. Everything may look good, but people have extraordinary methods of covering up the damaged, broken and irreparable. The reason that the owner is selling his RV may be that there is something wrong with it that cannot be fixed, or may cost a fortune to fix. There are a rare amount of people who will be straight forward about these kinds of repairs needed. The owner, still wants the most money possible to buy his new RV.
While many people have found a good RV sold by the owner, they may not have gotten the best deal. When looking to buy such a valuable possession, you must know your options and have the resources for thorough research.
The best, and often overlooked, source of RV purchase , is by auction. Auctions are generally not well publicized, therefore people are unaware of how many repossessed RVs are sold for unbelievable prices. In today’s economic crises, many people are struggling to pay their way, and end up having their RV repossessed. Banks and government bodies do not want to have the costs of storing these vehicles and need to recover their financial loss. This is your chance to gain the best deal, as these RVs are not sold for profit, and the prices are low to make sure that they are sold quickly. The overall condition of these RVs is excellent, most of them almost brand new.
Stop dreaming about your RVing holiday and make it happen! Join a website that will point you in the direction of the best auctions in your area, and you will find an incredible bargain!
